Esmil Antonio Rogers (born August 14, 1985, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) is a Dominican baseball player with the Colorado Rockies in Major League Baseball.

Baseball career

In 2008, Rogers played with the "high-A" level Modesto Nuts of the California League.[1] He was promoted to the Rockies in September 2009 and made his major league debut on Sept. 12, 2009, giving up two runs and three hits in four innings of the team's 3-2 loss at San Diego. He returned to the Rockies in 2010, and pitched in 28 games, 8 starts, compiling a 2-3 record, 6.13 ERA, .318 BAA and 1.67 WHIP.

Rodgers compiled a 3-1 record as a starter in April 2011 despite a retched 6.33 ERA. Rodgers made a 1 inning relief appearance on May 1 in which he allowed 4 hits, 2 walks, and 4 earned runs.

After almost 3 months without an appearance for the Rockies, Rogers returned for another relief appearance on July 25 in preparation for the Ubaldo trade. He again allowed 4 hits, and 2 walks over 1 innings and 3 earned runs.

Rodgers replaced Ubaldo Jimenez after his trade to the Indians on July 30. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit and 1 walk over those 5 innings of relief, lowering his season high ERA from 8.49 to 7.31, and took over the open rotation spot left by Ubaldo Jimenez.

As of August 11, 2011 Rodgers had recorded a 6-1 record on the year despite his 5.85 ERA and 1.72 WHIP. He had allowed 20 Walks in 40 innings and struck out 32. However, since the trade of Ubaldo Jimenez was completed, Rogers is 3-0 with a 2.16 ERA & 1.30 WHIP (16 2/3 innings, four earned runs, 16 hits, 5 walks).
